Crocus ‘Ruby Giant’ pops up early in the garden. As the snow melts the large rich purple-violet flower buds appear eventually opening to reveal bright orange-yellow stigma. The rich purple colour fades as the flower matures to a star shape with white internal markings. It self seeds and is a wonderful food supply for our early pollinators. Spring is in the air when I see them peeping through the grassy banks. They compliment the snowdrops perfectly. I enjoyed exploring the intricacies of this early bloomer.
